So I started taking photographs like most people do. You go on a trip, a special event or outing and you take a camera to capture the day.
Several years ago I was at a friends cabin taking pictures of the lights that were strung around his cabin, by accident I jiggled the camera and got an amazing photo (I call it light capture), the result was a "traveling" light image. I was fascinated from that moment on. I started taking pictures of any light source (it seemed to only work at night). Before I knew it I had amassed several hundred photos. I used that camera, a simple point and shoot sony digital, for years.
I recently purchased a Nikon digital that is simple to operate and has some amazing features that allow me to really expand on my photography. The most recent photos were shot at a nature reserve near my home. The photos in their original state are quite plain and ordinary. Through simple color and contrast manipulation I am able to drastically alter the "reality" of the photo.
I have also found that I greatly enjoy the concept of black and white photography. When shooting in b/w I tend to choose "live" subjects. The focus is mostly day to day activity. Walking down the street, sitting inthe park, etc.
Where do I go from here?
My plan is to put together a portfolio and try to get my work into a gallery setting. I would love to do commercial work as well. I just have to figure out how to go about this. Wish me luck.
